The 2007 World Food Prize Laureate: Philip Nelson
Dr. Nelson’s innovative scientific breakthroughs have revolutionized the food industry, particularly in the area of large-scale storage and transportation of fresh fruit and vegetable products using bulk aseptic food processing. His work, which began with tomatoes and later included a variety of seasonal crops, has made it possible to store foods for long periods of time and be transported around the world without losing nutrional value or taste.

Packaging : Stanelco comments on bio materials
Paul Mines from Stanelco comments on how good it is to see so much interest in bio materials for packaging.
For what is believed to be the first time a 100% biodegradable flexible tube was presented at Interpack by Aisapack and Stanelco BioPlastics.
Biodegradability and sustainability are the key drivers in the development of this new
revolutionary package. Whilst all the materials of construction are biodegradable, substantial levels of sustainability are achieved through the use of potato and corn starches.
Firstly these materials offer the advantage of using renewable resources. This allows reductionin consumption of fossil resources and moreover in a reduction of CO2 emission compared to oil-based plastics.
Secondly the material is biodegradable meaning that it will not persist in the environment as long as oil based plastics and it can be composted, offering an eco-friendly disposal route or second natural life to the package back in the ecosystem.
The biodegradable materials used are Bioplast® resins commercialised by Stanelco plc, UK.
Aisapack and its sister company Aisa, Switzerland; have developed the processing capability in order to obtain state-of-art flexible tube packaging with industrial scale equipment for tube production.
This biodegradable tube is constructed from an extruded sleeve cut-off at the desired length.
The moulded shoulder is then directly compression moulded onto the sleeve using an Aisa’s PTH machine. Decoration has been directly applied on the finished tube using dry offset printing.
The biodegradable tube has an agreeable ergonomic feel thanks to seamless and flawless
bonding and forming. This offers great consumer appeal coupled with good gas barrier
properties - this biodegradable tube is ideally suited for the natural cosmetic, personal care, and food markets.
Stanelco Bioplastics sells a range of Bioplast® resins. All Bioplast® resins are biodegradable and many of them are compostable in thin section forms. Biodegradable materials break down naturally in the environment when they are appropriately disposed of and turn back into natural raw materials.
The Bioplast® resin range is manufactured as sustainably as possible and finished products typically contain 40% to 100% of plant derived materials.
Stanelco BioPlastics is a division of Stanelco plc, a technology based company with a highly innovative and ecologically relevant range of products and intellectual property. Stanelco plc is quoted on the London stock Exchange.
Stanelco BioPlastics is a technical market leader in Europe with a range of products capable of replacing oil-based plastics in many applications with high levels of sustainably derived feedstocks. Derived from natural corn and potato starch, the biopolymers make functional, long-life plastic products that biodegrade back to nature.
Stanelco BioPlastics sells its innovative polymers under the trade name Bioplast®. These materials are manufactured in Germany in its Biotec production and development subsidiary; a business with 17 years experience in developing truly functional bioplastics. Biotec is certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 and DIN EN ISO 14001:2004.
My channel on you tube : http://www.youtube.com/alanheath is one of the most prolific from Poland. With almost one film per day, one may be forgiven for thinking I do nothing else but I do have a day job as well.
There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging — http://www.ceepackaging.com - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focussing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers. Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!
Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!

Packaging : Kangaroo action from tna
Shayne de la Force from tna explains how the kangaroo action on this packaging machine from Australia works!
Related tags: bag, cereal, food, frozen, VFFS tna, a supplier of turn-key, integrated packaging and processing solutions for food production companies worldwide, launches the robag® 3 Vertical Form Fill & Seal (VFFS) packaging system, with new kanga jaw technology for high quality specialty bag formats and long bag applications such as cereals and frozen food.
robag® 3 is a multi-functioning, highly efficient machine for all types of bag forms. tna created the new robag® 3 to address customer feedback about their continuing needs for versatile VFFS packaging. One of the robag® 3 innovations is its ability to provide a continuous, regular and smooth film speed; perfect for all types of films, including high sensitivity films. “We have taken all our customer feedback to make the robag® 3 the most versatile, high performance VFFS we have ever designed” says Shayne De la Force, group marketing manager, tna. “With the new kanga jaw configuration, we can now emulate a box-motion with all the benefits of a high speed rotary system which is a new and original approach.”
The new kanga jaw innovation is designed to allow production of high-quality flexible bag formats such as quattro and block bottom, on robag® 3 rotary jaw machines, whilst maintaining the high speeds tna customers expect. These bag formats were previously achievable only on tna’s robag® flat jaw models. The kanga jaw, powered by a linear motor, adds an up and down motion to its rotating jaws. This additional movement of up to 120 mm allows jaw path control so the jaws approach each other on a horizontal line. This new dimension in tna’s rotary jaw evolution adds the flexibility for specific technical needs or bag formats. The highly versatile control option is integrated into the systems software so it can be simply switched on or off as required.
PLEASE LEAVE A STAR RATING!
My channel on you tube : http://www.youtube.com/alanheath is one of the most prolific from Poland, although unfortunately not the most visited. With almost one film per day, one may be forgiven for thinking I do nothing else but I do have a day job as well. I have produced almost 600 original films, most in English but also in Polish, French, Italian, Spanish and the occassional hint of German and Hebrew. My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects
Please feel free to ask questions in the public area or to comment on things you disagree with. Sometimes there are mistakes because I speak without preparation. If I see the mistakes myself, I make this clear in the text. Please also leave a star rating!
